Welcome

The Readington Township Police Department is committed to delivering professional, ethical, and community-focused law enforcement services. Our officers and civilian personnel work collaboratively with residents, businesses, schools, and partner agencies to maintain public safety, reduce crime, and support a high quality of life throughout the township.

Mission Statement

We, the officers of the Readington Township Police Department, are committed to protect and serve the public, prevent crime and apprehend offenders, and provide professional police service to all of our citizens as well as those who visit or travel through our community.

To achieve our mission, we must earn and retain the confidence and respect of the public we serve. We hold ourselves accountable for these actions and therefore, we will strive to recruit and retain the highest quality officers as we realize they are our most valuable assets in achieving our mission.

Message from the Chief of Police

As Chief of Police, it is my duty and privilege to serve the residents and visitors of Readington Township. The Readington Township Police Department is committed to providing professional, proactive, and community-focused law enforcement services. Our officers work tirelessly to prevent crime, maintain public order, and ensure the safety and security of all who live, work, and travel through our community.

We recognize that effective policing is built on trust and collaboration. Through proactive patrol operations, traffic safety enforcement, thorough investigative work, school and youth engagement, and ongoing community outreach, we strive to strengthen relationships and address concerns before they become problems. By working together as partners, we will continue to keep Readington a safe and welcoming place for all.

Thank you for your continued support and confidence in our department. It is an honor to serve as your Chief of Police.

Chief Steven J. Rindock

Rules and Regulations

Readington Township has updated the ordinance that establishes rules and regulation for the police department. The ordinance provides for a line of authority relating to the police function and for the adopting and promulgation by the appropriate authority of rules and regulations for the government of the force and the discipline of its members.

Specifics of day-to-day police operations belong in department policies and procedures. In addition, the adoption of rules and regulations is not the responsibility of the chief of police, but instead it is the responsibility of the Appropriate Authority within the municipality. Issuing policies and procedures, orders and directives that govern the day-to-day operation of the police department is, however, the responsibility of the chief. The rules and regulations can be found below.

Community Programs

Caregivers of individuals on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) know them better than anyone, but that is not always true for others that interact with those with ASD. The Hunterdon County Police Chiefs Association has developed a Blue Envelope Program, modeled on a program first developed and distributed in the State of Connecticut. The purpose of the Blue Envelope is to improve the interaction between a driver with ASD and a Police Officer on a traffic stop. The primary goal of the Blue Envelope is to assist drivers with ASD with document organization and to help them understand what to do on a motor vehicle stop. Secondly, the Blue Envelope provides Police Officers with the means to quickly identify an operator of a motor vehicle who has ASD and helps guide Police Officers with the interaction.

The Blue Envelopes are available at each Police Department, the Sheriff's Department, the Prosecutor's Office, and the State Police Barracks within Hunterdon County.

General Information

Due to changes imposed by The State of New Jersey, the police department will, in most cases, no longer fingerprint civilians. Township residents will be fingerprinted when required to volunteer within the township, for employment purposes (when forms are provided by the prospective employer) and for Megan's Law Registration.

Fingerprinting is conducted between the hours of 6:00pm - 8:00pm, on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of every month. If you do not bring forms provided to you by the requesting party, we can not fingerprint you. If you have any questions regarding fingerprinting eligibility or to make an appointment with SPO. Tom Wallace, please call 908-534-4031 EXT. #312.

If fingerprinting is needed for Firearms Purchaser Identification Card and/or Handgun Purchase Permit, forms will be auto-generated through the FARS system when submitting an application.

If you need to be fingerprinted for any other reason, IdentoGO is contracted by the State of New Jersey to provide fingerprinting services. Please go to IdentoGO to make an appointment. You may also contact IdentoGO at 877-503-5981

The juvenile officer is a component of the Detective Bureau. The juvenile officer is a liaison to all schools in Readington Township as well as Hunterdon Central Regional High School, which is located in Raritan Township. He can be reach by calling (908)534-4031 x368 or emailing msmith@readingtonpd.gov

The police department has received complaints of motorized vehicles being operated on township property, specifically, trails that were created for walking, bicycling and horseback riding. Readington Township has the following ordinance which prohibits this.

No person shall use any portion of a township park for purposes of way, except drives, parking areas, roadways, paths, walks and trails established for such purpose by the Committee; footpaths, walks and trails established for pedestrian, bicycle or horseback traffic shall not be used for motorized vehicular travel.

Our number one priority is to continue to provide the level of service our residents deserve. If you have questions for concerns, please do not hesitate to call us at (908)534-4031 or email us at info@readingtonpd.gov
