Crash Reports

New Jersey law requires certain crashes to be reported. If a crash involves injury, death, or more than $500 in property damage to any one person, it must be reported to the local police department using the quickest means of communication.

Self-Reporting (SR-1)

The New Jersey Self-Reporting Crash Form (SR-1) is used only for crashes not investigated by police. Residents can complete the SR-1 online and receive an acknowledgment within minutes. Online receipts are equivalent to NJDOT-stamped paper copies and may be submitted to your insurance company.

Access the SR-1 online: New Jersey Self-Reporting Crash Form

Obtaining Crash Reports

Crash reports for incidents handled by the Readington Township Police Department are available:
In person at police headquarters, or

Online at CRASHDOCS.ORG

Please allow 5–7 business days from the date of the crash for report availability.

All Other Police Reports

In-person requests may be made Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM. Please bring identification; you will be asked to complete a Records Request Form.

OPRA Requests

Some records require an OPRA request. The Open Public Records Act allows public access to certain government records. OPRA requests must be submitted to the Readington Township Municipal Clerk (Custodian of Records) using the township’s OPRA form, which includes the requester’s name, address, phone number, and a description of the records sought.

Submit an OPRA request: Readington Township OPRA Request Form

Note on exemptions: Certain police records are exempt from disclosure under OPRA. If a requested record is exempt, you will receive a written denial with information about your right to appeal to the Government Records Council or the New Jersey Superior Court (see N.J.S.A. 47:1A-6–7).

Response time: The Records Custodian has seven (7) business days (excluding holidays) to respond. If extenuating circumstances prevent a response within this period, the requester will be notified in writing.
